SCOPE OF EXAMINATION for a FULL CONDITION REPORT

The standard survey
•With the vessel hauled out, stem, keel, transom, bottom and topsides will be examined externally, including rudders, stern gear and hull fittings. On GRP hulls, a thorough visual examination is made including a check for high water content and osmosis.

•Decks and superstructure will be examined externally, including coachroofs, hatches, gear and fittings.

•Where possible, mast and spars examined.

•Internally, the hull structure will be examined where accessible, including longitudinals, bulkheads, framing, floors, ballast, keel fastenings, stem and stern reinforcement and deckhead structure.

•Accommodation joinery and furnishings assessed.

•Domestic service systems such as gas, fresh water, heating and electrics will be inspected for safety, and where possible operated.

•Equipment installation to be checked will include steering gear, pumps, tanks, sinks, cookers, toilets, batteries and lights.

•Engine and generator installations will be checked visually, assessed for structural security and safety, including fuel and exhaust systems.

•Safety and fire fighting equipment will be checked for adequacy but not tested.

•Electronic navigational and communication equipment will be powered up and where possible operated.

Extended surveys
By arrangement, provision can be made for all of the above to be carried out but with the addition of the following:

•Checking mast and rig after lowering by boatyard.

•Fastenings to be withdrawn by shipwright, examined and tested as considered necessary by the surveyor.

•Joinery, machinery and tanks, removed by shipwrights, and concealed structures examined.

•Engines started or run in operational conditions.

•Valuation for insurance purposes (normally included with insurance surveys).
